Solar Energy at SONAMIA: Producing and Consuming Differently
At SONAMIA, our commitment to a more responsible industry goes beyond our products and logistics. It also shapes the way we consume—and produce—our energy.
Since 2021, our logistics site has been equipped with 1,500 m² of photovoltaic panels. This concrete choice for the environment was made during the expansion of our facilities. Three years later, that decision has proven to be a lasting and measurable action.
Thanks to this installation, 25% of our total energy consumption is now covered by a renewable source. And that’s not all: 85% of this production is used for direct self-consumption, powering our buildings and operations.
The local energy loop
That “surplus” energy will soon find a new outlet: the collective self-consumption loop (ACC). Driven by Terres de Montaigu, this innovative project brings together twelve local companies, including SONAMIA, to create a short-circuit system for solar electricity.
The idea?
Produce locally, consume locally. With an energy-sharing system between neighboring businesses, the green electricity generated by some can be used directly by others. It’s a concrete way to strengthen our energy resilience while collectively reducing our carbon footprint.
In numbers
-
5 companies equipped with solar panels
-
1.7 MWp of installed capacity
-
1.84 GWh of renewable electricity shared each year
A new way of thinking about energy
Taking part in the ACC is more than a technical project—it’s a shared vision among local stakeholders to:
-
Pool resources,
-
Act for a more sustainable industry,
-
Strengthen ties between local businesses.
At SONAMIA, we’re proud to be part of this collaborative and forward-thinking initiative, contributing to the development of local, sustainable, and concrete solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s energy challenges.
