SONAMIA: Over 60 Years of History, Innovation and Team Spirit
For more than six decades, SONAMIA has been moving forward with a single ambition: to provide high-performance tire and complete wheel solutions for all terrains.
From its early workshop in Nantes to its modern site in Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay, SONAMIA has established itself as a trusted partner, recognized for its expertise, proximity and independence.*
🔹 From Family Roots to the Creation of SONAMIA
It all began in March 1962, when Marthe and Roger Monvoisin took over a small rural tool supply business in Nantes. Roger quickly developed a network of trailer manufacturers and secured distribution contracts for tires and complete wheels. As demand grew, so did the company’s reputation, soon known as Monvoisin Pneus.
To support this growth, the company moved in 1966 to larger premises on the banks of the Erdre River, and officially became SONAMIA S.A., short for « Société Nantaise de la Machine Industrielle et Agricole » (Nantes Company for Industrial and Agricultural Engineering). From that point on, SONAMIA took its own path, specializing in the distribution of tires, complete wheels and accessories.

🔹 The 1970s–1990s: Structure, Innovation and Growth
During the 1970s, SONAMIA strengthened its presence in the French market while professionalizing its wholesale operations.
The company developed two complementary business areas:
- Wholesale activity
 - Retail services

Through the 1980s and 1990s, SONAMIA continued to grow: new warehouses, expanding teams, modernized logistics tools and structured services.
In 1991, SONAMIA moved to Basse-Goulaine into an 8,500 m² building — a major milestone supporting its growing national operations.

🔹 2000–2010: Efficient Logistics and a Vision for the Future
In the early 2000s, SONAMIA continued to grow with a renewed focus on proximity, quality and logistical performance.
New warehouses were built, flows were automated, stock capacities increased, and the brand positioned itself as a key player in the French off-road market.
The company also invested in digitalizing its processes and developing new product ranges to meet the evolving needs of its customers in agriculture, construction, handling and green spaces.
🔹 2014: A New Chapter in Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay
In 2014, SONAMIA opened a new chapter with the move to its site in Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay (Vendée).
A modern 36,000 m² building was constructed to improve service quality and support future growth. Since then, the site has continued to expand — with an additional 12,000 m² delivered in 2021, bringing total storage capacity to nearly 48,000 m².
This state-of-the-art logistics platform now allows SONAMIA to respond quickly and efficiently to customer needs throughout France and across Europe.Â
🔹 A Company Rooted in Its Territory and Looking Ahead
Firmly rooted in the Terres de Montaigu region, SONAMIA takes pride in its independence and its people-focused culture.
The company’s five key pillars — team spirit, customer service, management mindset, responsability, and autonomy — remain as strong today as they were in the beginning.
In recent years, SONAMIA has taken concrete steps in its energy transition journey:
- Installation of 1,500 m² of solar panels on its logistics site
 - Participation in a local collective self-consumption project
 - Ongoing investments to reduce its carbon footprint and improve industrial practices

🔹 More Than 60 Years of History… and Still Moving Forward
In 2023, SONAMIA celebrated 60 years of history — six decades of innovation, passion and collaboration. From its artisanal beginnings to its position today as a recognized player in the agricultural, forestry, construction, industrial and leisure markets, SONAMIA has continued to evolve without ever losing its original spirit: a company close to its customers, agile, and proud of its teams.
At SONAMIA, people are at the heart of our success. It’s this collective energy that drives us forward, together.
